Paotere harbour is one of the ancient heritage ports of the old-days, located 5 km from the center of Makassar. The harbour is still exists and as a proof of the relics of the Kingdom of Gowa-Tallo since the 14th century when dispatching about 200 fleets of Phinisi boat to Malacca.
Paotere is a center for fishermen selling / trading fish. In the early hours Paotere activity is quite busy hence it's a place of loading and unloading fishes. Near in this location you will also find local people selling souvenirs, clothing, household necessities, and imported clothes and shoes from overseas.
Paotere area is also the best place watch the sunset while enjoying a variety of grilled fish and seafood that served with "cobe-cobe" a.k.a typical spicy dine (sambal) of Makassar. You can find it all the way inside Paotere area.

You may also fishing in the dock where juts directly into the sea. Usually there are local children who are always ready to rent fishing equipment such as hooks and bait, with a very cheap price of Rp 2,000 to Rp 3,500 per hour.
You'll like this area once you're there...
